Dictator Erdogan decrees $20 billion Tank Factory gift to Cronies

How nice to have total power! Here’s yet another little scandal to add to the 1001-crimes-of-adolf-erdogan. Not this time locking up tens of thousands or  massacring the Kurds, but adding up to a fine sum of $20,000,000,000 nonetheless.

How Erdoğan rushed to gift Turkey’s multibillion dollar tank factory to his cronies and Qatar

by Abdullah Bozkurt  at Nordic Monitor

The government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan rushed a financial agreement between Turkey and Qatar through Parliament for approval ahead of his decision to turn over a $20 billion tank and pallet factory to a company run jointly by his associates and the Qatari army.
The tank and pallet factory at 1st Main Maintenance Command headquarters in Turkey’s Sakarya province.

The deal, the avoidance of double taxation agreement, came just in the nick of time before the Erdoğan government presented a multibillion-dollar national tank factory on a silver platter to Turkish-Qatari armored vehicle manufacturer BMC, a company run by Ethem Sancak, a member of the MKYK executive body of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

The rushed agreement on double taxation between Turkey and Qatar replaced one that had been in effect since 2009.
The taxation agreement was approved in Parliament.
Erdoğan issued an executive decree on Dec. 20, 2018 that turned over the rights to operate Turkey’s national tank factory for a 25-year period to BMC without any competitive bidding or transparent process.

On paper, 49.9 percent of BMC’s shares belong to the Qatari Armed Forces, while Sancak owns 25 percent and the Öztürk family (Ahmet Öztürk, Talip Öztürk and Taha Yasin Öztürk) owns 25.1 percent.

Rumor in Ankara circles has it that Erdoğan is the real owner of BMC and Sancak is merely a caretaker looking after the Turkish president’s business interests. The Öztürk family, known to have mafia links to Galip Öztürk, a convicted murderer and head of an organized crime network, is seen close to the Turkish president.

March 8 Feminist General Strike plans: Spreading Wildfire

UPDATE: The call for a feminist General Strike, at work and at home  is spreading around the world and extending for more days. Reports are appearing of extensive organising, especially in Spain, Italy, Rojava and Brazil.

Again this year it will be the minority CNT and CGT anarcho-syndicalist trade unions who call the Feminist General Strike on 8th March International Women Workers Day in Spain. This strike registration gives the huge popular  ‘Work and Home’ feminist strike some legal protection against continuous State attacks.

CNT STATEMENT

The National Confederation of Labor, in response to the call of the feminist movement and in accordance with the principles of the organization, will convene on March 8 a feminist general strike of 24 hours in all sectors, so that anyone from any part of the territory will have all the legal guarantees to support the strike.

  • The Spanish State is a land where the feminist fight stands strong. on January 15 there were protests of women in many cities for two reasons: 1) supporting their Andalucian sisters on the inauguration of the new right wing government of Vox-PP-Ciudadanos, and 2) uniting forces towards the 8M strike. Though the main unions (CCOO, UGT, USO) called for partial strikes, others (CGT, CNT) called for a general strike. Meaning, the movement broadens.

Almost a year after the historic 8M strike of 2018 that mobilized millions of people in defense of women’s rights, the reasons that motivated that call remain fully valid.

Women continue to face day after day a capitalist and patriarchal society that denies them the most basic right to non-discrimination.

The violence that is exerted on women, at home, in the street or at work, must be attacked and annulled by society as a whole to aspire to live in a more just and egalitarian environment.

As a union, CNT faces every day the labor discrimination suffered by women only because they are so. Neither the current legislation nor the courts protect the right of women to work on equal terms with their male colleagues.

Abusive agreements, lack of effective tools to guarantee the same salary for performances of equal value, unrecognized illnesses characteristic of work in feminized sectors, harassment and sexual abuse, are just some examples of the conditions that women live in their work environment.

Faced with this reality, CNT will summon the entire working class to a feminist general strike on March 8 to demand the elimination of the wage gap, both direct and indirect, the elimination of obstacles in access and promotion in employment (sticky soil). and glass ceiling), measures that facilitate the reconciliation of work and family life from co-responsibility, eliminate the reform of the pension law in

which only 23% of women will retire at 65, as well as the end of all discrimination at work at the service of the family home.

Like last year, CNT is positioned behind the feminist movement and, along with other social groups and organizations, will continue working to achieve a true political and social change where care is recognized, valued and shared.

Because all oppression will find the CNT in front, the 8M will go out to join our strength and contribute to the success of the call.

#FreeWestPapua: Trans-Papua Highway.. Ecocide and Genocide for Quick Cash $$

A Highway Megaproject Tears at the Heart of New Guinea’s Rainforest

…. illustrations and #FreeWestPapua info added…. The Indonesian government is building a 2,700-mile road network on the island of New Guinea, opening up some of the world’s last great tropical rainforests to development and threatening unique indigenous cultures. Can international pressure force Indonesia to scale back this megaproject?

The Pacific island of New Guinea, which harbors one of the world’s largest and most intact tropical rainforests, is the epicenter of Australasia’s tropical biodiversity. The island’s unique denizens, including tree-kangaroos and birds of paradise, are representative of a regional flora and fauna so fantastically diverse that Charles Darwin once mused such creatures must have been made by a “separate Creator.” Today, researchers are still merely sampling its primeval intricacies.

The Indonesian military clears trees for a segment of the Trans-Papua Highway in northern Papua. Daniel Beltrá / Greenpeace

New Guinea is also among the most culturally and linguistically diverse places on earth, with human populations that are genetically distinct from all others alive today. Not until the 1930s did the Western world discover many hundreds of unique indigenous societies in New Guinea’s vast mountains and highlands. And only in the 1950s did European colonists, miners, and loggers begin to exploit the region.

Today, these unique rainforests are being carved up by a massive, ill-advised, and exceptionally risky road-building scheme. The Trans-Papua Highway will sprawl like a massive spiderweb over much of the Indonesian-ruled, western half of New Guinea, known as Papua or West Papua.

The areas circled are projected to experience intense deforestation when the Trans-Papua Highway is completed. Courtesy of William Laurance

Totalling 2,700 miles in length, this highway network will penetrate deeply into densely forested or remote mountainous regions to increase access to minerals, fossil fuels, timber, and land for agri-business ventures, including vast palm oil plantations. Many road segments will traverse precariously steep, virgin terrain. Continue reading “#FreeWestPapua: Trans-Papua Highway.. Ecocide and Genocide for Quick Cash $$”

Climate Emergency School Strikes going Viral ..#FridaysForFuture

#FridaysForFuture: “We have come here to let you know that change is coming, whether you like it or not”

FridaysForFuture      Published by Enough is Enough. Written by Riot Turtle.       More and more cities across the globe are joining the Frifays for Future school strikes.

On the German territory alone students will go on strike in more than 50 cities on Friday January 18. The school strikes for climate justice were started by 16 year old Greta Thunberg last year.

Students and others hold up placards with climate messages during a demonstration against climate change in Brussels, Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019. Thousands of students as part of the Youth for Climate movement took time off school Thursday to call for stronger action against climate change. (Geert Vanden Wijngaert/Associated Press)

Is it an anarchist movement.? .. No its not, but many of the school strikes are self-organized and there are many cities where young anarchists are involved in the school strikes. The movement for climate justice is growing fast, many young people are getting active because they see that the “traditional” political system is not acting against climate change. One supporter and three from the squatting collective were arrested, instead of the hired thugs.

”Although the converted ‘luxury’ flats were finally lost the emergency neighbourhood mobiization brought crowds of people onto the streets in record time to block the private mercenaries of the speculation company until the police charged twice”..

This was in the context of increasing mobilizations by tenants, unions and neighbourhood groups against the wave of corporate buyouts and evictions for property speculation and gentrification in the city.
