Barcelona: 32 flats Occupied for Evicted Mortgage Victims

The Spanish debt spiral is still climbing. All social services are being destroyed or sold off to help pay the interest on gigantic grants to save the Banks after the collapse of their capitalist scams. But the debt keeps rising.

With evictions still running near 500 a day and popular anti-eviction laws rejected by the government, community groups are beginning mass occupations.

The property is owned by a subsidiary of the Barcelona County Council and has been empty a long time.

Integral Revolution Coop takes off in Barcelona

At least 1,200 Catalans manage themselves with their own ”money”, education and health , they do not use the euro but ecos, a “free money” that can be exchanged for hours of work or products..

They have organized a network of health care, education and access to housing, based on trust among members.
They are expanding to the rest of the peninsula. in France and Italy similar experiences have been initiated.
They have a currency of its own, a self-managed health care system, an educational network and housing office. They are self-managed cooperatives and self-organization, groups of people living outside the system, and make decisions in open assemblies based on trust organization. In Catalonia, there are already 1,200 citizens who have chosen this way of life and the implementation of these communities is spreading. Mass Occupation of Toxic Assets: Anti Eviction Movement (PAH)

Update: The ruling PP and controlled media are accusing the anti eviction movementg PAH of belonging to ETA terrorist mileau and subject to anti terrorist laws

The PAH Anti Eviction Platform in the town of Salt has occupied a whole block of new empty flats owned by Sareb, the newly created ‘bad bank’ set up to hold ‘toxic assets’ from bankrupt creditors. The association will transfer them to families who have been left homeless. 400,000 people have been evicted in the Spanish State due to the banks crisis and evictions are running at over 500 a day. The PAH forced parliament to debate an anti eviction law with a 1 million petition, but the majority PP are against. The EU has declared Spanish law in which you have to keep paying a mortgage after being evicted to be illegal.

The squatted block is a toxic asset. It is also the only speck of life in failed blocks and empty buildings and real estate in the mountain town of Salt (Gironès County, Catalonia). The Platform of People Affected by Mortgages (PAH) on Friday took the block of brand new unused flats to distribute them free to families evicted .
