In calling for ‘local defense’ against eviction the occupiers refer to the successful Gamonal community uprising in Burgos just 2 weeks ago. We appeal to come and demonstrate to actively defend the streets,  and from the local self-organization movement to defend the autonomous social center Can Vies – at any time the City Council could exercise their power of  eviction – And also to defend all of the squatted social centers threatened in Catalonia…  (the Carboneria Squatted Center (La Carbò), the Expropriated Bank of Gracia,  the Popular Workers Center of the Eixample , the Gordíssima Occupied Autonomous Center (The Fattest One),  the May Flower (Flor de Maig)  and  the House of Dreams (Casa dels Somnis) ) , as well as to slow down the progress of the Police State and the criminalization of social movements , and show support for the antifascist prisoners from January 28 , one still in custody . Barcelona. 20 groups occupy Flor de Maig social center.. video

Poblenou neighborhood, Barcelona
This action is a response to the unilateral closure by BARCELONA CITY COUNCIL  of the Flor De maig (May Flower) center.

This afternoon, amid a festive atmosphere and protest, five hundred residents Poblenou opened new historical workers social center “La Flor de Mayo”, evicted by the City Council last May, recoverting the last historic building of the cooperative movement that still had  social and cultural use in the district.

Organising opposition to new anti-squat law

The date the new anti-squatting law comes into force in English and Welsh law has been set for September 1st. The Advisory Service for Squatters (ASS) have issued a warning and a call to arms: “We are going to need to be more organised and look after each other better. We will need legal back-up available on the street, and people will need help moving quickly and storing their possessions. We need networks, linked up with others resisting evictions and attacks on housing rights.”
