Workers at the Skaramangas shipyard in Athens storm the ministry of defense; farmers in Heraclion, Crete raid the Heraclion airport, as tension ahead of the voting of new austerity cuts intensifies
On the morning of October 4th, approximately 500 workers at the Skaramangas shipyard (West Attica), gathered outside the greek ministry of defense on Mesogeion Avenue. The workers were protesting for the fact that they have not been paid their last 6 monthly wages.
The workers quickly gathered around the hellenic army general staff HQ. Soon thereafter riot police entered the courtyard and clashed with the workers. At least 120 detentions of workers were reported and the tension continued outside the police HQ on Alexandras Ave (where anti-fascists are still held following arrests earlier in the week).
At approximately the same time, in the city of Heraclion, Crete, farmers gathered in the city centre to protest again the forthcoming cuts in their pensions, as part of the latest round of austerity cuts expected to be announced in the coming days, or weeks.
Later in the afternoon the farmers moved to the city’s international airport, entering its halls and attempting to smash through the gate of the airport in order to occupy its runway. Riot police used tear gas and the farmers responded by tossing stones at the police. Continue reading “Greek Uprising: Defense Ministry stormed. Airport Occupied..”

Final Update Oct 30th. the General Strike call for tomorrow will go ahead as a ‘Day Of Struggle’ with direct actions in Catalunya, plus pickets, a partial transport strike, and a demo in the evening. This is an alternative and building resistance. It’s also been backed by the CNT anarcho syndicalist union, (which is quite small as it refuses to cooperate with the State.) Of course these anarchist unions also support the Nov 14th South Europe General Strike!
Update Oct 24th.. Finally the ‘majority’ Unions have called a General Strike for Nov 14th. But the CGT are going ahead with theirs anyway.. let’s see if it works!!
(summary translated by The Free). The big sold out Unions have so far failed to back the Anarchist call but are pressured to do so. All the Unions missed the chance to strike on Sept 26th with Euskadi and Greece and link with Occupy Congress..
Unemployment continues to increase in SEPTEMBER
CGT GENERAL STRIKE CALLED for OCTOBER 31
…..More and more workers in the unemployment line, according to just released by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security with the September data in hand. There are 79,645 new people, an increase of 1.72% compared to the end of August, which reached a staggering 4.7 million registered unemployed in INEM offices, while membership in the Social Security descends by 86,174 people….
If to this we add the precarious labor precariousness of basic rights such as education and health-victims of savage cuts, alongside the dismantling and privatization of basic public services, the picture becomes bleak, and should be considered as a real provocation and insult to our dignity….. While the government insists on rescuing banks and cutting billions from schools and hospitals to be gobbled up by the ever growing debt and interest rates, rather than responding to citizen demands requiring the recovery of thousands of homes illegally accumulated in the hands of financial institutions .
We demand the retroactive payment in the immediate moratorium on evictions and social rent for hundreds of thousands of empty flats in the hands of banks. Citizen Rescue Pla, NOW

Spanish death pits never investigated as heirs of killers still enjoy stolen wealth.
Campaign for Truth Commision begins
